Siena apartment rental with view of Piazza del Campo and the Palio
This beautiful and unique apartment
is located on the third floor of a 14th century Sienese palace that has
successively been merged with a mediaeval tower of the 13th century.
There is little doubt, staying in this apartment places you firmly in
an Italy
of times past, with a view of the square (campo) that would take some
beating - the view from the windows is across to the famous bell tower,
and down onto the home to the world famous Palio di Siena.
The apartment is reached via a large and heavy mediaeval door leading
onto an ancient stone stairway, one enters into the large, still and
cool entrance atrium, paved in antique hand-made terracotta tiles. Your
eye is drawn towards the thick stone wall at the far end of the hall,
and the window looking onto the ancient tower of the main square.
From here there is a spiral staircase leading to a living room area and
a guestroom with small bathroom and storage space. The apartment (roughly
160m²) also has a large and elegant (frescoed) living room, and
a dining room characterised by some interesting arches; two large windows
face out onto Piazza del Campo, often considered to be 'la
più bella del mondo'. The splendid position of the apartment boasts splendid
open views - one can practically swallow up the entire piazza with one glance,
and the famous Torre del Mangia seems close enough to touch. It goes without
saying that the view of the July and August Palio is both unique and incredible. It
also goes without saying that demand for such a view during Palio weeks is considerable,
and the price reflects this at those dates.
There is a fine kitchen, dressed out in Sienese marble and offering all comforts.
The sleeping area, partially formed by part of the ancient tower, comprises a
large double bedroom with two windows, frescoes and large built-in wardrobes,
with bathroom and separate WC, again, entirely dressed out in Sienese marble.
From
the adjacent TV room, steps lead to a twin room, again with ample wardrobe space. The
splendid capitals can be traced to the noted Chigi-Saracini family, founders
of the famed Accademia
Chigiana. Guests have use of a bathroom with shower, decorated with fine ceramics.
