Tucked away on the Lucca mountains the Guesthouse Il Moro is reached by a good unmade road of about 1km and provides you with a different Tuscan experience. This property consists of 2 self catering apartments furnished with comfort and style. The guesthouse is located in a peaceful area surrounded by the impressive Apuan Alps and within walking distance of a sleepy village where there is a grocers shop. The nearest village with more shops and restaurants is only a 10 min drive away, while Castelnuovo Garfagnana is 20 minutes away. From here you can reach Lucca in less than an hour as well as the beaches in Versilia. However the mountains are the main attraction here. It makes it an ideal spot for relaxation as well as an active holiday. There are innumerable outdoor activities ranging from mountain hiking to canoeing. It is also great fun for kids to enjoy direct contact with nature.
The charming owners live on site and love to share their deep knowledge of the area with their guests who are always so generous with their feedback. At this property guests can sample some real local dishes and genuine home-made produce. Under the beautiful veranda in summer or in front of a big fireplace in winter, it is possible to taste farro soup, home made pasta, local meats, mushrooms, sausages and pecorino cheese with honey and fruit jams. Other delicacies include pizza cooked in the traditional wood fired oven, home produced olive oil and wine, grappa or the traditional liqueur Nocino, home made cakes, biscuits and plenty more.
Exquisitely prepared local delicacies such as cheese and marmalades are available for sale at the guesthouse and guests also have the chance to taste some real country meals at the restaurant on site. The property is surrounded by a vast grass area and a large pool (6m x 12m, 1.5m deep, open May to September) offering the perfect spot to unwind after a walk in the country or a visit to the local villages.
