Podere Torricella is a small hamlet located on a hill among olive groves and vineyards. The property is only 18 km from the centre of Florence, and represents an ideal base from which to reach the most important artistic cities of Tuscany, such as Pisa, Siena, Lucca, San Gimignano, Volterra and Vinci.

The central tower dates back to 1200, whilst the main body - all ochre walls and higgledy-piggledy roofs - has had more than three centuries to acquire the grace of old age. Although it enjoys absolute seclusion, Podere Torricella is part of an active farm which produces Chianti wines, olive oil, grappa and honey (all of which can be purchased). Wine tastings and visits to the cellars can be arranged on the property, and next door to Torricella is a charming typical restaurant where local specialities are served.

Three years of labour went into the conversion of the rambling old farmhouse into 10 beautiful and spacious one and two-bedroom apartments. The apartments, renovated throughout according to Tuscan tradition, have a clean, fresh country look but are immaculate rather than "rustic" as the attention to detail, both aesthetic and practical , is scrupulous. Handsome ornamental "Montelupo" plates, beamed ceilings and hand-wrought bedsteads complete the simple but exquisite picture and modern luxury is added in the form of satellite television and phones (outgoing calls only).

The farmhouse is composed of:

Two 2 room apartments: for 2+2 people, 50 sq.m with one bedroom, WC/shower, living room with kitchen unit and double sofa bed, with independent heating. Kitchen units (very well equipped) with 4 burners and refrigerator (by request we can provide a kettle, toaster, American coffee machine).

Seven 3 room apartments: for 4+2 people, 65 sq.m with two bedrooms, WC/shower (two apartments with 2nd WC/shower), living room with kitchen units and double sofa bed, with independent heating. Kitchen units (very well equipped) with 4 burners and refrigerator (by request we can provide a kettle, toaster, American coffee machine).

Studio apartment of 25 sq.m. with double sofa bed, WC/shower, independent heating, cooking corner (by request we can provide a kettle, toaster, American coffee machine).

There is one three-room apartment with facilities for the disabled. All the apartments are equipped with satellite television and telephones, and note that no pets are allowed.

There are all sorts of facilities available on site (Barbecue and old pizza oven, table tennis, mountain bike hire, tutored tastings of farm produce) for those times when you're not using the 7 x 14 metre swimming pool, and nearby are a tennis court and horse-riding facilities.
The owner and host at Podere Torricella (and the head of Renting In Italy), Cristiano, keeps his office filled with literature about local attractions, restaurants and events, which he is happy to share with you to help you plan several satisfying day trips from the farm.
