The old farm of Pietreto is located on a hill top, about 485 metres above sea level, in the heart of Chianti, only 27km from Florence and 30 km from Siena. Positioned between the mediaeval villages of San Donato (3km) and Castellina (6km), in the heart of the Chianti Classico area, the property is surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, orchards and woods.

The quiet location and broad views of the countryside are the perfect setting for a relaxing holiday, and the location of the apartments is ideal for visiting famous art cities such as Florence, Siena, Lucca, San Gimignano, Pisa, Volterra, as well as the nearby villages of the famous Chianti Classico area: Greve, Barberino Val d’Elsa, Radda, Gaiole, Tavarnelle, San Casciano with their churches and abbeys, castles and fortresses, farmhouses and villas.

In the village of San Donato, only 3km away, there are some grocery stores, a supermarket, a pharmacy, doctors, two banks, a Post Office, a petrol station, wine shops where you can taste the famous Chianti Classico wines, and a museum of country culture. In the Romanesque Pieve di San Donato you can admire the baptismal font in glazed earthenware by Giovanni della Robbia. Both San Donato and Castellina have several excellent restaurants, taverns, and inns. In the neighbourhood you'll find tennis courts, a golf course, fishing, and horse riding possibilities. You can rent a mountain-bike on our farm, and our gentle hills are full of shady lanes, perfect for cycling or trekking.

The Pietreto property consists of the villa (where the owner lives) and a beautiful barn, both built in stone in 1765 on the ruins of an old Spedale dei Pellegrini (Pilgrim’s hostel) which was a meeting place for travelers and farm labourers. In 1495 the farm of San Silvestro was given as dowry by Anton Maria Gherardini to his daughter Lisa, who married Francesco Bartolomeo del Giocondo - Mona Lisa’s famous portrait “la Gioconda”, by Leonardo da Vinci, is kept in the Louvre Museum in Paris.

In 1905 the Marquise Roti refined the villa, adding pietra serena framed double arched windows, and frescoes on some of the wood-beamed ceilings. The old barn, dating from the 18th century, has been recently restored and comfortably furnished. It consists of two apartments with independent entrances and parking spaces, independent heating and satellite television. Both apartments are surrounded by splendid private gardens (equipped with garden furniture) from which you can enjoy a striking view over the hills and valleys of Chianti. A barbecue is available to guests.


Apartment Lisa (85m²)

Located on the upper floor of the barn. It consists of a living-room with an open fire place and satellite TV, a dining room, a well equipped kitchen area, a double bedroom, a twin bedroom, a bathroom with shower, a closet. In the private garden there is a gazebo (5m x 4m) with wooden table and benches where you can eat outdoors while enjoying a spectacular view.

Apartment Leo (70m²)

Located on the lower floor of the barn. It consists of a large living room with satellite TV, a well equipped kitchen, a double bedroom, a twin bedroom and a bathroom with shower. In the private garden there is a table with chairs where you can have your meals enjoying an unforgettable view.

Thanks to the garden lighting you can also use the swimming pool at night. Barbecue and table-tennis are available to guests. Pets are accepted on request. The swimming pool (6m x 12m) equipped with hydro massage, and is surrounded by a sun-deck, and ample green spaces with olive trees and old stone walls. The shower is equipped with a solar panel. Deck chairs and umbrellas are available to guests. From here you can admire an unforgettable sunset.
