The Villa Mandorlino is a beautiful old house, dating back to the 14th century, in the heart of the Chianti region. Halfway between Florence and Siena, the recently restored villa has been transformed into four apartments (only three are for rent) and has a swimming pool.

These apartments are ideal for couples. The adjoining lemon house has been converted to create a magnificent open plan demonstration kitchen and dining room that seats as many as 10 around a large modern fireplace.

Marcialla, with its food shops, is just 3km away; Certaldo with all kinds of shops and a nice historical centre 5km; San Gimignano with its beautiful medieval towers 15km; Florence 30km; Siena 40km. The coast at Livorno is 100km away.

At guests disposal is a large furnished garden, swimming pool (12 x 6m, maximum depth 1.70m, open from 14/05 to 01/10), sauna and shared barbecue. There is a shared washing machine and ironing facilities. A secondary road passes close to the property; private parking is available within the grounds. There is a maid service available by arrangement, €10 per hour to be paid locally. The apartments have country-style furnishings.


The villa's location, only 7km from the railway station at Certaldo, makes it a good base to visit Florence and Siena even without a car: You can park your car in Certaldo (free parking behind the railway station) and take the train in either direction. During the week, trains to Florence/Siena and back run regularly (every one and a half or two hours). The train ride takes about 90 minutes. In Florence the train will take you to the main station which is right in the centre of the city; it’s just a short walk from Santa Maria Novella station to the Cathedral or the Uffizi. In Siena, the railway station is around 3km from the centre, and you have to take a bus to reach the old town on the top of the hill. An hour’s drive takes you to the sea.

The only other people you are likely to see on the estate, aside from the gardeners, is the couple who owns this property, living in the opposite wing of the house with 2 dogs and 1 cat.

Facilities include air conditioning (for Mandorlino 2 and 3 only), cooker, fridge, electric kettle, toaster, American coffee machine, hair dryer, mobile fans for the bedrooms, satellite TV (no telephone), private outdoor areas, Mediterranean-style swimming pool with Roman steps, classical Tuscan garden with hand-carved stone balusters, breathtaking views, barbecue, parking, private olive groves and vineyards surrounding the villa.

Mandorlino One measures 65 square metres on the ground floor. It has a living room with fireplace, satellite TV, kitchen corner and dining area, small living room with sofabed, double bedroom, bathroom with tub, and private furnished outdoor area.

Mandorlino Two measures 45 square metres on the ground floor. It has a living room, satellite TV, kitchen corner and dining area, double bedroom, bathroom with shower, air conditioning, and private furnished outdoor area.

Mandorlino Three measures 40 square metres on the ground floor. It has satellite TV, a kitchen corner and dining area, with double sofabed, bathroom with shower, air conditioning, and private furnished outdoor area. Nearby sports include the pool, a stables 10km away, tennis 10km, and a golf course 40km away.
