PRIVATE VILLA RENTALS IN ITALY

Villa La Cortonese is an aristocratic villa just outside Cortona in eastern Tuscany. Surrounded by olive groves and chestnut woods, it looks out over the massive Valdichiana and the foothills of the Apennine Alps. The area combines great natural beauty (Lake Trasimeno is a short drive away) with a wealth of historical remains and artifacts - Etruscan, Roman and mediaeval. Cortona's ancient walls and winding streets have resisted the ravages of modern development, and the town has several excellent restaurants.

La Cortonese is situated in the silence of the hills (you are just a short distance from the narrow streets of Cortona, paved with history), where the dense woods of the mountains slope downward toward extensive olive groves dotted with pine trees and cypress trees. The main villa offers accommodation for six guests, and has two annexes – La Corte 1 and La Corte 2 - which sleep another two people each.

La Cortonese is a traditional Tuscan home, with the rich, warm colours of terra cotta and chestnut beams lending a timeless elegance. The rooms are spacious and light, and furniture and furnishings have been carefully selected to emphasise the grandeur of the building.

The grounds are well tended and there is a swimming pool - this is a truly perfect spot for a relaxing, country holiday in Tuscany.

Villa La Cortonese (sleeps 6 - 3 double bedrooms and 2 bathrooms):

Ground floor: sitting room with fireplace, central living room with couches and television, and a dining room with table and chairs for six. Behind the dining room is the separate kitchen, with full freezer/fridge, four burners, stove, dishwasher and toaster. A hall leads to the full pantry and a powder room. From the living room there is a wooden staircase which leads to the first floor.

First floor: the long corridor has a door leading onto the rear garden. Off this hall are three double bedrooms, one with its own bathroom with shower. The other two bedrooms, at the opposite end of the hall, share a large bathroom with tub. One of the bedrooms has a delicately painted ceiling, another has a walk-in closet and capriciously frescoed wall. All have big picture windows overlooking the garden and the valley. This entire level has priceless mahogany parquet floors. The lower level has terra cotta floors and pretty beamed ceilings. There is a wash room next to the villa with a washing machine and iron.

These two small lodges are set in the same grounds as the La Cortonese. They are small but delightful, set in the grounds of this aristocratic 19th century villa, amidst the enchanting greenness of the countryside, the sacred silence of history, and the infinite valleys. The annexes are elegantly furnished and spacious, perfect for any couple seeking a comfortable retreat. Both have their own path to the swimming pool through the olive grove, and both have a central living room with television, a beautiful master bedroom with double bed, an en suite bathroom with shower, and a separate eat-in kitchen with mini-fridge, burners and stove.

Both these houses have wonderful beamed cathedral ceilings and myriad glass doors and windows, plus a table, chairs and sun chairs in their own part of the garden.
